The Origin of the Name "Dracula"

Dracula

Portrait of Vlad Tepes

The Impaler's father had been a Dragon and so did he become. Beyond that, it must be pointed out that the dragon has been a mythological parallel to the devil. The name "Drac-" itself means "dragon" in Romanian. Dracula's father was known as the Dragon, and Vlad Tepes was Vlad Draculea, that is, "son of the dragon". Romanian "ul" is the definite article, and "a" or "ulea" mean "son of". Therefore, Vlad Tepes was known as "the son of the dragon", and due to his extreme cruelty, "the son of the devil".
