The Order of the Dragon

The Origin of the Name "Dracula"

        Vlad Tepes the Impaler is thought to be born in Sigishoara, which is now part of Romania, but was then in Transylvania. He was the second son to Vlad "Dracul", a Wallachian Prince who was living in exile at the time. He was a Dragon, a member founded in 1410 by King Sigismund of Hungary. The society was called "The Order of the Dragon, and its goal was to defend Christ against all enemies of the Church. The members were called Dragons due to the open winged dragon emblem they possessed.
